Raja Kirik
Indonesian duo Yennu Ariendra and J. Mo'ong Santoso Pribadi form as Raja Kirik to electroplate Javanese traditional music, combining sounds from their arsenal of homemade instruments with complex sci-fi sonics and high BPM electronic rhythms. Their music is derived from the Hindu-Buddhist Jathilan, a shamanic trance dance from the 11th century that symbolized the ways peasant workers could eventually overpower their oppressors. Raja Kirik mirror this approach with their own compositions, unravelling the colonial devastation of the Dutch East India Company by mashing together Indonesian microtonal percussion and ear-splitting Dutch hardstyle kicks, stabs and bursts.
