Kali Malone presents: Does Spring Hide Its Joy featuring Stephen O'Malley and Lucy Railton with visuals by Nika Milano
Hide Its Joy" at Unsound 2022, accompanied by Sunn O)))'s Stephen O'Malley, cellist and composer Lucy Railton and video artist Nika Milano. The composition was conceived for Berlin's Funkhaus in 2020, and has been performed across Europe, intended to coax the listener into a deep listening state using unusually tuned cello, electric guitar and sine waves. Venezuelan-Mexican audiovisual creator Milano experiments with feedback signals and modular synthesizer, and promises to bring another layer to the performance.
Malone is one of the world's most beloved contemporary minimalists, and earlier this year released her latest album "Living Torch" for the esteemed Portraits GRM label. Using Eliane Radigue's ARP 2500 synthesizer and a plethora of other instruments, including bass clarinet and hurdy-gurdy, Malone strikes a tone that Boomkat describes as "a conversation between Hildegard von Bingen and La Monte Young".
