Surgeon is one of the paragons of heavy techno. Starting his DJ career in Birmingham in the late 80s, he soon began recording his own productions. After a debut on Downwards, many seminal records followed on such labels as Tresor, Counterbalance and Dynamic Tensions, as well as a sinister collab with Regis as British Murder Boys. Inspired by krautrock, dub and industrial music, Surgeon's singular sound has stayed relevant throughout the decades, still inspiring younger producers. One of those artists is Starlight, best known for her work with Lady Gaga. Paying respects to Surgeon during her Birmingham warm-up show before Gaga, she couldn't have known he was in the audience. A chance meeting led to a new collaboration, with Surgeon calling Starlight "the techno sister that I was separated from at birth."
