Unsound 2019 Day Eight

Unsound 2019 Day Eight

This is it, today is the final day of Unsound 2019!

The day kicks off at 12 midday with a special brunch set from Bambino Sound System at Puro Hotel in Kazimierz - they will ease you into Sunday by playing music on crackling Polish sound postcards as you sip coffee.

The final film in our screening program at Kino Pod Baranami is Symphony of the Ursus Factory, a unique hybrid of documentary, choreography and body memory set in an abandoned Polish tractor factory. An additional ticket is required on top of the pass. The final panel discussion sees Oramics’ Monster and Room 4 Resistance’s Luz discuss the ethics of clubbing with Resident Advisor’s Maya-Roisin Slater - entry to this talk is free. The final Unsound Transmission takes place at Busz, with The Wire's James Gormley and MUKA.

You can still buy tickets via Going and in the festival office for an additional live performance of Hildur Guðnadóttir’s score to the TV series Chernobyl, which had its stunning premiere yesterday. It takes place at the abandoned Telkom-Telos factory. Tickets will also be available at the door, and the concert opens at 3.30pm.

The festival’s closing concert takes place in the sumptuous Baltimore duo Matmos are known for composing abstract but fun music using sounds from unexpected sources - tonight’s work from the album Plastic Anniversary is performed using plastic objects. Opening is The Round Table Orchestra, formed especially for Unsound, their name referencing the 1989 Warsaw talks between the government and opposition leaders. The orchestra features Remont Pomp - a percussion ensemble including members with and without a disability - as well as Polish saxophonist/clarinetist Mikołaj Trzaska, guitarist Raphael Roginski, saxophonist Tomasz Gadecki and bassist Adam Żuchowski. This show is sold out, but Matmos will perform an additional show on their won at 5.30pm. Tickets will be available at the door for this show, and are also available via Going and at the festival office.

We celebrate the end of the festival later at Hotel Forum’s Kitchen. It’s the final night of Unsound and we aim to make the most of it, with an exciting lineup exploring the cheerful fringes of dance music. Portuguese artist Violet’s dreamy live show is based on broken beats and mellow synths, while Monster from Poland and Kazakhstan’s Nazira will play DJ sets with a wide selection of techno, house and rave. The night will be opened with a live set from Seltron 400 - a collaboration between Eltron and SLG - and Semprey. Entry is free!

Also remember that the Unsound exhibition program continues to run today, as well as the golf cart tours of Kazimierz organised by local Jewish arts collective FestivALT.

And that’s it for this year! See you again in 2020!
