In the Soviet Union, the Prometheus Institute in Tatarstan was a centre for light experiments, combining art and science. Led by Bulat Galeyev, the team created inventions to help astronauts and factory workers relax, as well as light machines that interacted with architecture and sound. At 2017’s Unsound Kazan, Lillevan worked with the institute and their light machines to create new visual shows with music, the start of an extended collaboration. Lillevan screens excerpts of Galeyev’s work, and gives an overview of the Prometheus Institute’s past and present.
