Riccardo La Foresta is an Italian percussionist and sound artist whose practice sits between the fields of experimental music, free jazz and sound art. In recent years his research has involved questioning the role of the drum as a percussive instrument by focusing on the development of a system called the Drummophone. This entails exploring resonances and vibrations to generate acoustic drones, ancestral melodies and complex beats that drastically distance the instrument from conventional drumming. His piece at Unsound blurs the line between installation and performance, and is open for four hours in the nineteenth-century Tempel Synagogue.
