Final additions to Ephemera Festival in Warsaw! The Unsound-produced event starts next week!
The Unsound-produced and curated Ephemera Festival takes place in Warsaw next week, from June 15th to 19th, a feast of the senses engaging local cultural institutions, artists and audiences.
Final additions to the program include the unique Heavenly Bodies on June 16th, an edible installation created by Warsaw’s Pola Salicka i Pola Sutryk in collaboration with the Conflict Kitchen initiative, involving herbs, leaves, flowers, colours and rituals. Set in what was once a school playground at Komuna Warszawa, the scenography will be created by Ukrainian artist Planeta, while vodka and beer tasting is provided by Browar Tenczynek. Famed duo Matmos will perform, creating music by sampling food and drinks, their show followed by a ritualistic set from Ukrainian artist Facheroia. Elsewhere in the former school, queer Warsaw artist Bella Ćwir will read fragments from the new Polish translation of Marcel Proust’s Rememberance of Things Past. Tickets are very limited, and are available here.
The festival opens with a short and powerful performance from Taras Gembik and Zoi Michailova exploring Ukrainian dissident poetry. Performers will be joined by Julia and Alina Dedenova playing on traditional Ukrainian kobzas. Half of the ticket income from these performances will be donated to a selected organisation supporting queer youth in Ukraine. Funds will also be collected throughout the festival.
Elsewhere in the program, following the Friday night June 17th concerts at Teatr Studio, we’ve also added a free after party. Taking place at Paloma nad Wisłą, the event is presented with Warsaw label Dom Trojga, and includes DJ sets from Ukraine's Poly Chain and Olivia – both with recent releases on Dom Trojga – and label head Eltron.
Earlier in the day, Ephemera returns with another event in Puro Warszawa – from 5pm in Loreta Bar Young Majli and madikoptah will play b2b with an ephemeral selection of bass-heavy tracks guiding us into full festival mode.
Wojciech Kosma’s performance as spalarnia has been added to the closing event on Sunday June 19th in Komuna Warszawa, to be followed by KEM collective’s interpretation of Mica Levi’s score *** (star star star) directed by PRICE.
Also, right before the official start of the festival on June 15th at 6pm, an exhibition by Wiktor Stribog (feat. Aleksandra Waliszewska and Ignacy Kamiński) of Mushroom TV fame opens at Leto Gallery. It will be followed by an artist talk with Matmos and the screening of the film Solo – about Polish composer Boguslaw Schaeffer – in Komuna Warszawa.
Find the festival program on the Ephemera website, along with ticket links. Tickets are available to most shows, although some are almost sold out. There are also only a few passes left. Follow Ephmera on Instagram or Facebook to keep up with the latest news, or try Unsound Telegram if you prefer.
