DJ Babatr
Emerging from the barrios on the outskirts of Caracas in Venezuela, changa tuki is the name for a suite of local subgenres, including raptor house, hard fusion and street house. The sound crystallized in the late 90s, characterized by fast tempos that would drive dancers in brightly-colored outfits into fits of frenzy. Pedro Elias Corro, aka DJ Baba the Raptor, is considered the Godfather of raptor house, masterminding a vivid fusion of European trance, ghetto house and Afro-Latin rhythms that rarely got the glory it deserved outside of South America. But times change, and DJ Babatr hit the spotlight last year when he collaborated with Miami's Nick León on 'Xtasis', a hi-NRG anthem that swung across dancefloors from Amsterdam to Kampala, and was named as Resident Advisor's track of the year.
