It’s the Third Day of Unsound - Here’s What’s On!

It’s the Third Day of Unsound - Here’s What’s On!

Welcome one and all to the third day of Unsound, and we're off to an early start: for the first Morning Glory session of the week at Kopernika 15, two artists are set to coax us into the rest of the week. Best of all, it's absolutely free!

Starting at 11am, Aussie experimental musician Lydian Dunbar will transplant the cooling, beach ambiance of his Room40-released Blue Sleep from Northern New South Wales to Kraków. After that Martyna Basta, a local artist who's released on Slovakia's Warm Winters label, will perform music from her upcoming album, using processed instruments, vocals and field recordings. Doors open at 10:30am.

Over at Pałac Krzysztofory, the Unsound discourse program once again takes shape – also free. Unfortunately, for personal reasons, the talk with publisher and editor Lee Brackstone has been cancelled. We have therefore shifted the first talk, with Michael David Quattlebaum Jr. – aka Mykki Blanco – to 1pm. Mykki will open up a window to his process, telling his unique story as an HIV positive entertainer and activist who's been a child actor, teenage prostitute, performance artist, poet and musician. The book Sound Within Sound re-appraises twentieth-century classical music, shattering its traditional canon, and its author Kate Molleson will discuss its implications with Jennifer Lucy Allen. Afterwards, Robin Fox examines the work of Polish-born A/V innovator Stanislaus Ostoja-Kotkowski, who inspired his latest work Triptych. Rounding off the day's discourse sessions is a presentation from artist and researcher Jak Ritger, who'll stare into the viral media void, tracing the lineage of confrontational aesthetics.

Uncorking the evening's programming at Łaźnia Nowa Theatre, modular synth enthusiast Heinali is set to present a very special performance. Best known for streaming a concert from a bomb shelter in Lviv shortly after the Russian army invaded Ukraine, Heinali will revisit these sounds, linking contemporary synthesizer music with medieval and early modern polyphonic sounds. Ghosted is up next, the transcendent project from experimental guitarist Oren Ambarchi, bassist Johan Berthling (of Tape) and Fire! drummer Andreas Werliin. The trio will expand on their debut Drag City-released album, playing stripped-down minimalist grooves that boil with energy. London's Coby Sey brings the night to a hazy close, appearing with a full band to realise the hybrid sound of his critically acclaimed debut album Conduit - fans of Tirzah and Mica Levi, you won't wanna miss this one! Tickets available at the office and will also be available at the door.

The latest status update for tickets availability for all individual events is on our website. As always, follow us on Telegram for the very latest info, as well as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, and join the Unsound Discord to chat with other attendees.
