Aho Ssan & Resina
Parisian sonic alchemist Niamké Désiré (aka Aho Ssan) captured global attention with 2020's Subtext-released "Simulacrum", a resonant symphony of complex digital processes inspired by Jean Baudrillard’s "Simulacra and Simulation". Abstraction provided Désiré with the ideal methodology to represent complex themes about Blackness, identity and growing political unrest both in France and elsewhere. These themes feed strongly into this year's "Limen", a seismic collaboration with Kenyan producer KMRU that ruminates on concepts of destruction and creation in the wake of parallel global collapse.
Resina is Warsaw-based cellist and composer Karolina Rec, a prolific artist who's performed with some of Polands most influential cult acts and released a slew of genre-defying solo albums. Since 2016, she's been working under the Resina moniker, and put out an impressive run of records for Fat Cat sublabel 130701. Last year's "Speechless" was her most expansive full-length to date, subverting Rec's voice, cello and electronics with drums, flute, field recordings and a 23-piece choir. A dedicated live performer and improviser, Rec is also an in-demand soundtrack composer, most recently providing the accompaniment to video game "Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows of New York".
