midnight future shock film season
THE HIDDEN is a series of installations located in the cellars, corners and disused rooms of a former cosmetics factory, through which visitors are guided on a tour. They explore submerged sound, histories, menace and music. With Mordant Music, Finnbogi Petursson, Jana Winderen, Jacob Kirkegaard & Lukasz Szalenkiewicz.
THE VISTOR
Jacob Kirkegaard and Lukasz Szalenkiewicz (DK/PL)
Commissioned by Unsound THE VISITOR makes use of sound frequencies to summon up an unseen presence inside the basement of an abandoned cosmetics factory. Both sonic and physical, THE VISITOR is at turns malicious, then placated, slumbering until its next attack. This installation has been carefully created to interact with the site, to move around and through the audience, finally ensnaring them.
ENERGY FIELD
A multichannel sound installation by Jana Winderen (NO)
This installation builds upon the material from the album "Energy Field", released by Touch on 6th April 2010.
Jana Winderen researches the hidden depths with the latest technology; her work reveals the complexity and strangeness of the unseen world beneath. The audio topography of the oceans and the depth of ice crevasses are brought to the surface. She is concerned with finding sound from hidden sources, like blind field recording.
The ecosystems underwater are highly neglected and surprisingly not very much research has been done in the area of sound, even though the oceans cover more than 70% of our planet. The installation consists of recordings made by four DPA hydrophones, a Telinga parabolic reflector and 4060 DPAs from inside and deep under the ice in Greenland, the Barents Sea, hunting saithe in the Norwegian fjords, of sea snails along the shores, of feeding and mating cod and the shifting current deep under the surface.
“To add the sense of listening to the understanding of the oceans' creatures, I believe we can further our respect and knowledge of this hugely important and fragile ecosystem.”

NESST
Mordant Music (UK)
The first in a projected series of 'Nesst' installations to be created by Mordant Music, marking the furthest point that the mysterious UK label / artist has come out into the open since its inception in 2000. Nesst represents the various studio spaces that Mordant Music has occupied over the years.
This is basically Mordant Music's version of a tour and consists of a pill-box structure with a looping projection of his first DVD entitled 'MisinforMation', which is officially released by the British Film Institute on December 6th.
EARTH
Finnbogi Pétursson (IS)
A transfixing installation that utilizes sound, light and shadow. Pétursson floods a room, employing low frequency sound to continually move the water. The reflections radiating from the piece form an ever-changing environment, creating a deeply compelling installation. Pétursson says: "I am always trying to capture phenomena, such as sound, water, fire, shadow and light, and channel them along new grooves, turn them into something other than what they are. These are phenomena that you feel and think about, but never see." This piece was first exhibited in the Sean Kelly Gallery. (Text from Sean Kelly Gallery.)
