For the first time ever, Unsound presents a complete film program to complement concerts and panel discussions.
The bulk of this program connects with the "Systems" project, marking 20 years since the end of communism in Poland.
This project contains films relating directly to the communist period, such as "Beats of Freedom", about rock music in Poland at this time - and also a documentary from the same directors about punk music in Poland in the 80s.
As well, the "Systems" film program includes documentaries exploring how economic and legal systems affect the way music is created and sold. "RiP: A Remix Manifesto" looks at copyright law and the way it attempts to control sampling cultures. "Before The Music Dies" reveals how artificial stars are created by entertainment companies such as record labels.
"Speaking in Code" is a very intimate portrait of the world of techno.

To mark twenty years since the end of communism, the Unsound opening day includes a screening of a new Polish documentary about rock music as a force of opposition during Polish communism, with filmmakers Leszek Gnoinski and Wojtek Slota present to introduce it. Co-produced by Adam Mickiewicz institute, and part of the "Systems" project.

An American documentary, "Before the Music Dies" takes a critical look at the homogenization of popular music, and the way that economic systems and big business have led to the creation of "artificial" music stars. Directed by Andrew Shapter. Part of the "Systems" project.

Screening: RiP A Remix Manifesto

Web activist and filmmaker Brett Gaylor explores issues of copyright in the information age. The film's central protagonist is Girl Talk, a mash-up musician topping the charts with his sample-based songs. But is Girl Talk a paragon of people power or the Pied Piper of piracy?
