discussion program
The panel discussion and workshops program has been enlarged and developed, to ensure Unsound is seen as a place where cultural dialogue and exchange occurs - not only between visiting music industry professionals and artists, but with the general public.
Many of the panels connect with the "Systems" project, marking 20 years since the end of communism. The discussion on independent cultural production in Poland since 1989 specifically links to this moment, as does a panel on the 80s Polish punk movement, but other talks interpret the word "Systems" in different ways.
One discussion looks at music programming systems, such as Ableton - do we program them, or do they program us? A second panel responds to music journalist Philip Sherburne's call for manifestos to be written up guiding the production of innovative club music.
There is also a presentation of ICAS (International Cities of Advanced Sound), a group of international festivals dealing with tomorrow's music and art forms, which includes events such as MUTEK, Club Trandmediale, Today's Art, Dis-Patch and Communikey. Also part of the "Systems" project, this group reveals the positve side of globalisation.
Unsound will also host a public discussion on the meanings of metal in this country, and a music journalism workshop with American writers Philip Sherburne (The Wire, Pitchfork, The New York Times) and Andy Batagglia (The Onion, Pitchfork, Spin). Finally, there will also be a kid's electronic music workshop, run by the Serbian festival Dis-Patch.
