Machinedrum
Machinedrum is New Yorker Travis Stewart, and he's been making music under several aliases since his first release in 1999. Known for compacting and fragmenting different dance/electronic music genres, his best work so far is encapsulated in the Machinedrum album "Room(s)," released this year on Planet Mu. Indeed, it is considered by many to be one of the defining albums of 2011.
Resident Advisor even awarded it a rare 5/5, writing: "'Room(s)' is a stunning statement of purpose: Stewart takes the flatlined jackhammer of footwork and loads it on the back of jungle's freewheeling adrenaline flights, and when that fidgety, energy-overload style meets with Travis' sugary-sweet samples and candy-coated melodies, the product feels incomparably giddy."
Along with friend and collaborator Preveen Sharma, Travis is also one half of Sepalcure, who after a couple of well-received EP's will release their debut album on Hotflush this year.
