Sam Amidon
Singer-banjoist Sam Amidon's repertoire is made up of adapted American folk songs, but he puts a unique stamp on the material with his gentle, eerily deadpan voice and subtle arrangements. His first album (as Samamidon, together with Thomas Bartlett) was “But This Chicken Proved Flasehearted”. The follow up album. “All is Well”, was released by Bedroom Community in 2008. Sam lives in New York City. He plays in the lamp-rock bands Doveman and Stars Like Fleas, and has also played with Tall Firs, The Swell Season, and Stares. As Rolling Stone wrote of Amidon: "In an era of overheated Nick Drake comparisons, Amidon is eerily close to the real thing." Pitchfork said: "Amidon doesn't just update the old world to the new, but finds the roots of the new world in the old."
