Laurel Halo
Laurel Halo is regarded as one of the most distinctive artists to emerge in the electronic music world in recent years, combining and twisting elements from dance and experimental music genres.
She first appeared on the radar with 2010's "King Felix" EP, which was inspired by the Philip K. Dick novel "Valis" and released on Hippos in Tanks.
2011's "Antenna" was released on cassette and explored the ambient side of Laurel's music, but it is "Hour Logic" - again on Hippos in Tanks - that reveals her best work so far. Almost gone entirely are the vocals from "King Felix," allowing Laurel to reach toward her own version of the dancefloor, incorporating traces of Detroit techno that constantly threaten to dissolve amid ambient washes and new age drift. This is music that refuses to play by expected rules, making Laurel's voice stand out among a younger generation of synth musicians mining the past.
