Ben Frost
The music Ben Frost is about contrast; influenced as much by Classical Minimalism as by Punk Rock and Metal, Frost's throbbing guitar-based textures emerge from nothing and slowly coalesce into huge, forbidding forms that often eschew conventional structures. His famed performances have taken place at MUTEK and Sonar, as well as at St Katherine’s Church at Unsound in 2008, arguably the highlight of the entire festival. (A recording of the performance is available as a podcast on the Unsound website). In 2009, we are very pleased he will be appearing again, in the context of the Bedroom Community band. His performance will also coincide with the release of his new album, “By The Throat”, a follow up to the critically acclaimed “Theory of Machines” (described by one critic as “the future of electronic music”). Bedroom Community states that his new album’s “darkly surreal sound-world owes as much to David Lynch as it does to David Lang.” Ben Frost will also perform at Unsound NYC in 2010, in the world premier of an ambitious project creating a new soundtrack for the Tarkovsky classic “Solaris”.
