Unsound Adelaide Returns to Australia
It’s hard to believe that Unsound Adelaide in Australia is turning 10, having first laid down roots in the city in 2013, with the festival once again taking place as part of Illuminate Adelaide. As always, Unsound is an opportunity for local audiences to discover artists at the vanguard of electronic and experimental music, with many Australian premieres and exclusives. More information and tickets can be found on the Illuminate website.
The lineup at the atmospheric Dom Polski Centre on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th July includes Ukraine’s Heinali, playing emotionally charged music on a modular rig; Danish ambient musician Sofie Birch and Polish vocalist Antonina Nowacka; the new Robin Fox laser show Triptych; Kode9 live with his A/V show Escapology; underground rapper bbymutha; the heavy, pummeling music of Divide // Dissolve; UK’s Space Afrika with an A/V show; Guatemalan cellist, vocalist and composer Mabe Fratti with a quartet; Huerco S. with a rare live show; and Nyege Nyege affiliate Otim Alpha, from Uganda. Unsound late night club events at The Lab @ Light include DJ sets from Malian DJ Diaki, also connected to Nyege Nyege; Tayhana, representing the vanguard of Latin American club music; Kode9, Huerco S., and Australians C. Frim, DJ Plead, Female Wizard and Travis Cook.
On Sunday 16th July Oneohtrix Point Never appears at the Hindley Street Music Hall, with an A/V show. Supporting is Australia’s Corin, also with a new A/V show. Tickets available here.
Also a reminder that on the other side of the world Unsound hits London on 6th May, with a lineup at the Barbican including the experimental supergroup Osmium – featuring Hildur Guðnadóttir, Sam Slater; James Ginzburg (Emptyset), and vocalist Rully Shabara (Senyawa), who'll create surprising and hypnotic music using custom-built instruments. Sofie Birch & Antonina Nowacka and Robin Fox will also perform. Info and tickets here. Late that night at The Glove That Fits, we’re joining forces with Tropical Waste to present an afterparty with Egyptian-via Berlin ABADIR, Latin deconstructionist Safety Trance, Poland’s Hermeneia, and Seb Wheeler of Tropical Waste. Tickets here.
But that’s not all! Next week we’ll announce the lineup for the Unsound-produced Ephemera Festival in Warsaw, which takes place in the middle of June. Stay tuned!
