Unsound Returns to New York in November! First Artist Announcement!

Unsound Returns to New York in November! First Artist Announcement!

Unsound Kraków starts in less than 2 months, but it’s also time to spread some Unsound New York news. Taking place from November 14 to 17, our New York edition includes three nights at Lincoln Center, as well partnerships with Pioneer Works and Dripping, with a program spanning experimental, electronic, avant-pop and club music. To make Unsound New York accessible, events are mostly free or Choose What You Pay.

Shows at Lincoln Center include SUNN O))), who will perform on November 17 at the David Geffen Hall, returning to the live aspect in its core, original raw form. Opening is Guatemalan cellist and vocalist Mabe Fratti, to blur folk, jazz, and avant rock. Stockholm-based American composer and organist Kali Malone will appear at the Alice Tully Hall on November 16, presenting organ, choir, and brass pieces from her album All Life Long, featuring Stephen O’Malley.

Opening is Polish guitarist Raphael Rogiński, presenting a live interpretation of his 2015 album, Plays Coltrane & Langston Hughes, soon to be reissued by the Unsound imprint along with four freshly recorded tracks; joining him is drummer Jim White and Amirtha Kdambi on vocals.

Both of these shows are Pay What You Choose. Tickets go on sale to members on September 5 and to the general public on September 10.

On November 15, a night at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center features Piotr Kurek, who will present music from the Unsound-released Smartwoods, with New York players on harp, trumpet and clarinet and bass. Another artist will be added to the lineup soon. This event is free of charge.

In the daytime on November 15 and 16, Unsound will team up with Pioneer Works to present the work Białowieża, created by Chris Watson – one of the world’s most acclaimed field recordists – and Polish field recordist Izabela Dłużyk. In New York, Białowieża will be presented in the form of an installation. The project was commissioned by Unsound, Atonal, Semibreve and Sónar as part of the TIMES Platform, and the installation will also be free of charge. More info on September 5.

The festival will open on Thursday November 14, with a night co-presented with Dripping at Nowadays veering from live experimental shows to club music, lasting until the early hours of the morning. The program will be released on September 5, when tickets will also go on sale.

Unsound New York is part of Lincoln Center Presents and is co-organised by Fundacja Tone and co-presented by the Polish Cultural Institute New York. This project is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland from the Culture Promotion Fund in partnership with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
