Unsound News Days 1 & 2: Sunday September 29 and 30

Welcome one and all!

Unsound Kraków starts today in a lowkey way, allowing people arriving in the city to relax and chill before the madness begins. Note that the festival office does not open until Monday October 30 at 12:00 midday. Located in Krzysztofory Palace (entrance from ul. Szczepańska 2) go here to exchange your festival tickets for a wristband, ask questions, purchase tickets, or attend the discourse program.

Check here to see what individual tickets are available and sold out. Also, remember to download our festival app via the App Store or Android for easy access to the festival schedule and info.

At 15:00 today, Unsound founder and Artistic Director Mat Schulz will take a group of people on a soundwalk through sites connected to the history of Unsound – this walk is fully booked. At 22:00, local collective Kraksa presents an intimate party at Sekta Selekta featuring Kraksa residents Semprey, Sompti, DJ Doktor and Rukatunturi, who will play alongside special guests paszka, Berna and Hmokio Uhęę. This party is not included in the festival pass. Earlier, at 16:00, a bunch of longtime festival fans have also put together an OFFSOUND party at Święta Krowa.

On Monday October 3, the Unsound music program begins with Japanese artist FUJI|||||||||||TA performing as part of the Morning Glory series. Taking place at ul. Kopernika 15 in a former 19th-century medical academy, doors open at 10:30 and the show starts at 11:00. It’s free, but arrive early to ensure you get a seat.

Afterwards, the discourse program begins at Krzysztofory Palace. At 12:30 Nina Franklin Lupini will present a talk based on the radical history of broadcasting. At 13:45 Mateusz Witkowski and Małgorzata Halber talk about Halber’s upcoming book Hała (Noise) on surviving in an overstimulating world. At 15:00 Sebastian Cichocki, curator at Warsaw’s Museum of Modern Art speaks with Maya Baklanova, Yuko Asanuma and Edwin Nasr on curating in the age of geopolitical upheaval. At 16:30 legendary sound artist Chris Watson, known from founding Cabaret Voltaire to recording for David Attenborough, is joined by Polish field recording artist Izabela Dłużyk to talk about their work together in the Białowieża Forest – and more.

The night time music program takes place at Łaźnia Nowa in Nowa Huta, with Chris Watson and Izabela Dłużyk presenting their new commissioned work Białowieża, followed by Danish avant-pop artist ML Buch. Closing the night is bona fide Norwegian noise legend Lasse Marhaug. Doors open at 19:00, shows start at 19:30. Tickets will be available at the door or purchase online.
