REVERBERATION

Description

Kraków’s Philharmonic Hall is the setting for a night of contrasting premiere shows. Tied to the release of their new album, Barcelona-based duo Tarta Relena present És pregunta, reimagining Mediterranean musical history. On previous records, Tarta Relena has sung in Latin, Spanish, ancient and modern Greek, English and their native Catalan. Constantly experimenting with vocals, synthetic sounds and samples, Tarta Relena are crafting a modern canon of archeological treasures.

Following is a suite of works by Mica Levi, performed by Sinfonietta Cracovia, one of the leading chamber ensembles in Poland, founded by Penderecki. Levi is a singular composer, having penned influential scores for films such as Zone of Interest, Under the Skin, Jackie, Zola and Monos. They're also a member of CURL, Spresso, Tirzah and Good Sad Happy Bad, and their solo releases shift fluidly between blown-out shoegaze, noise and hypnotic sound collage. The works performed at Unsound will include entirely new compositions. Program outline coming soon.

Belarusian-Polish activist and artist Jana Shostak will stage a brief Intervention in the form of a scream. Shostak began screaming following the disputed re-election of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. Tonight, her “scream of spite, of anger, of powerlessness” has wider meanings.
