PRESENTATION & DISCUSSION: POST-MUSIC: SOUNDCHECK COMPETITIONS

Manchester-based artist duo Y7 (Hannah Cobb & Declan Colquitt) and interdisciplinary researcher Aadita Chaudhury present a study of the phenomena of Indian Soundcheck sound systems. Coming off the back of Y7’s article for 032c earlier this year, which placed the subculture in a hypothetical era of “Post-Music” where noise is primarily felt rather than heard, the trio will discuss Soundcheck in relation to contemporary audio cultures, as well as within the socio-political context it emerged into (and the traditions it emerged from). Finally, they will also discuss their conversations with a leading vlogger in the scene, giving a crucial insight into a bewildering practice still in its infancy.
