Description

Two intimate concerts at Kino Kijów underline the fact that noise is intimately connected to silence and stillness. One of the greatest singer-songwriters of his generation, Bill Callahan first appeared in the late 1980s under the Smog moniker, often using battered instruments to accompany his freeform, poetic baritone. Since 2007's Woke on a Whaleheart, he's been releasing under his own name, including 2022's barbed YTI⅃AƎЯ, his most politically incisive work to date. He’ll perform a rare solo set.

Opening is Italy-based Polish vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Antonina Nowacka, who will perform the music of her latest album, Sylphine Soporifera, a sonic voyage that is both strange and beautiful. For this meditative reinterpretation, the music will include an ensemble made up of Antonina, Anna Pašić (harp) and Magdalena Gajdzica (flute), as well as visuals by Icelandic-based Polish artist Weronika Izdebska.
