Yellow Swans
Gabriel Mindel Saloman and Pete Swanson formed Yellow Swans in 2001, spending the next seven years circling the US underground noise axis and recontextualizing industrial music, psych, drone and hardcore. They released over 50 recordings over this period, collaborating with peers like Mouthus, Burning Star Core, John Wiese, Axolotl and Birchville Cat Motel, and devising genre milestones such as 2005's blistering, beat-heavy 'Psychic Secession' and their iconic elegiac swan song 'Going Places'. It was all over, or so we thought, until Swanson and Saloman made an unexpected return last year, following a handful of cacophonous live performances with a new series of rehearsal recordings entitled 'Out of Practice' that'd make you believe they never went anywhere. Taking archival snippets and dusty folk samples and simmering them into a stew of white noise, hoarse oscillations and piercing guitar feedback, Yellow Swans have never sounded more vital - or more relevant.
