The Body & Dis Fig

It's a match made in extreme music heaven. Felicia Chen, aka Dis Fig, has been working tirelessly to split underground club music with expressive noise since she emerged in the mid-2010s, while experimental metal duo The Body have spent the last two decades ignoring the rock rulebook, boiling their sludgy riffs with searing electronics and ratcheting electronic beats. Their debut album 'Orchards of a Futile Heaven', released this year on Thrill Jockey, is as hefty as it is earsplitting, piercing the veil between electronic music and metal and layering Chen's cathartic vocals over nauseous drones, earth-shaking rhythms and intense abrasive textures. It might be loud, but it's also soul-crushingly beautiful.
