Karkowski. Form and Disposition by Aleksander Wnuk and Piotr Peszat

Local duo Aleksander Wnuk, a percussionist and performer, and Piotr Peszat, a sound artist and composer, will follow in the footsteps of pioneering Polish experimental musician Zbigniew Karkowski at this year's Unsound Kraków. Interpreting the 2008 composition 'Form and Disposition', which was never notated, Peszat and Wnuk studied live performances and recordings, and Wnuk took the initiative to pore through interviews with Karkowski and query his collaborators. All of this makes sense given that Karkowski was notoriously suspicious of scores, realizing that they often limited the performers. Wnuk's rendition of the piece, using DIY instruments and Peszat's arsenal of Ableton LIVE tools, is a ritualistic, emotional and physical reply to Karkowski's original that brings out the tactile textures hidden within the sound.
