TUIN INFERNAL - BAILE FUNK TECHNOLOGIES, PRESENTED WITH NYEGE NYEGE

The baile funk music that plays on the soundsystems of bailes de favela (favela's funk parties) has little to do with its international pop versions. Recorded in small studios on the outskirts of urban areas, this type of funk explores saturated, distorted and aggressive sounds, such as ‘tuin’. Breaking down the different trends and subgenres of funk, this talk is an immersion in these artists’ sonic vocabulary, production techniques and musical innovations. GG Albuquerque will talk about the history of this cultural movement and how the favela DJs invent their creative approaches based on knowledge that comes from an intimate connection with the party environment (including dance, drugs and sound frequencies) and the new forms of creativity introduced by new musical technologies.
