DIARISTIC AMBIENT, COMPOSITION AND MEMORY, PRESENTED WITH THE WIRE

Although coming from different places and backgrounds, Kraków-based composer Martyna Basta and LA-based sound artist claire rousay operate in similar emotional zones and share an interest in diaristic expression. They compose intimate music from fragments of everyday life and often work with pocket compositions using field recordings, but also employ diverse instruments and devices such as zither and Auto-Tune with no aesthetic constraints. Around their Unsound-commissioned collaboration, Basta and rousay will talk to music journalist Miloš Hroch, a contributor to The Wire magazine, about what composing means in the present time, how they work with the diaristic method and what role memory plays in their output.
