It’s the second day of Unsound. What’s on in Krakow, and what’s online?
After an energising opening, it’s now the second day of Unsound - and we’ve got lots of treats, in Krakow as well as streamed online.
To begin is a work by Riccardo La Foresta, an Italian artist whose Drummophone system explores the role of the percussive instrument. In the 19th-century Tempel Synagogue in Kazimierz, La Foresta will present a work that blurs the lines of concert and installation, available to visit for four hours from 11am to 3pm. (A 10 zloty donation to the synagogue is required to enter.)
At 12 midday in the festival office, we’ll present a screening of the short documentary Shy Radicals (dir. Tom Dream), inspired by Hamja Ahsan and his groundbreaking work that is shaping the Shy Resistance movement. After the screening, Lou Drago will host a conversation with Ahsan. Also at midday, you can join a journalism workshop with the editors of Resident Advisor – registration is required.
At 1.30pm Krakow’s digital witches, Eternal Engine, will present a video essay called Chakram Polarizer, digging into the speculative history of the city, feeding on the spiritual energy emanating from the world-famous Chakra located in Wawel Castle. At 2pm, Kuba Szreder, author of the book The ABC of the Projectariat, will address the ups and downs of the artistic projectariat, people who do projects to make a living. Then, at 3.30pm, David Toop will give a presentation on the ASMR phenomenon and the intimacy that arises between people listening together on the network. At 5pm, a discussion will look at the impact of the pandemic on tourist cities, and how to develop cities in a more sustainable way for locals. Unfortunately, for reasons beyond our control we are unable to present Angel Bat Dawid’s talk with DeForrest Brown, Jr. today, but will try to schedule this talk later in the festival week. Discourse program events take place physically in Kraków, and are also available to stream online.
The evening music program begins in Łaźnia Nowa in Nowa Huta, with the premiere of a commissioned collaborative concert of Bastarda and Jrpiej, as well as Eartheater with The Phoenix Ensemble, made up of local musicians. There will be a limited number of tickets available at the gate. Afterward, in Nowa Rezydencja, the eclectic lineup features Lensk, Lutto Lento live, bbymutha, MMM with their premiere of their new live show, UNIIQU3, VTSS and Chippy Nonstop with their debut b2b and Krakow’s Virtual Geisha. Limited tickets will be available at the gate after 11pm, dependent on capacity.
