Nikolaienko
Ukrainian sound artist Dmytro Nikolaienko is currently based in Estonia, where he produces haunted soundscapes using vintage instruments, recording crumbling tape loops on outdated reel-to-reel and cassette recorders. He released the brilliant "Rings" on Jan Jelinek's Faitiche imprint in 2021, following up with this year's "Nostalgia Por Mesozóica", a self-styled experimental exotica album that imagines a time-warped soundtrack to a Mesozoic Era natural history exhibition. Nikolaienko runs the Muscut label, focusing on avant-garde Eastern European artists like Pavel Milyakov and Chillera, and co-runs Shukai, an archival imprint that brushes the dust off Soviet-era tape music from artists like Valentina Goncharova and Volodymyr Bystriakov.
