The first stand-alone edition of Unsound Adelaide starts next week! From 16th to 19th November, the four days of the festival feature three evenings of shows, two club nights, three installations and - for the first time ever - a discourse program. Presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, the discussions will be held on 18th and 19th November at West Bar, UniSA City West Campus.

TRISTAM CARY was a UK-born electronic music who relocated to Adelaide in the ‘70’s, known for designing the synthesizer used on Dark Side of the Moon and the sounds of Doctor Who’s Daleks. CHRISTIAN HAINES and GABRIELLA SMART give insight to the unique achievements of this highly original composer and demonstrate his revolutionary technology live.

ROBIN FOX, KARA-LIS COVERDALE, NATE YOUNG of WOLF EYES and ERRORSMITH discuss what it means to play electronic and experimental music live, while UWE SCHMIDT aka ATOM™ and SEÑOR COCONUT talks about his early influences, the effect of geographical dislocation on his art and how he makes music. COLIN SELF, GIUSEPPE FARAONE from CLUB SYNC and Polish Unsound director GOSIA PŁYSA talk about what function music can play in relation to communities, protest and activism.

DAVE BURRASTON will give tips on how to get into Modular synthesis without going broke. RUBEN PATINO of N.M.O., THOMAS KONER of PORTER RICKS and VARG will explore current socioeconomic aspects of living, traveling and relocating as an electronic or experimental musician.

HOLLY HERNDON will talk about technology in life and music traversing subjects such as making emotional music via a laptop, our complex relationship to technology and how and why politics infuses her music, while her partner MAT DRYHURST discusses how decentralised tech could learn a great deal from utopian musical crews of different eras.

Entry to all the talks is free!
