Bill Drummond of the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu (also known as the KLF) perfectly encapsulates aspects of this year’s festival theme, embodying rebellion in the music industry in a way that goes beyond staid notions of counterculture. After achieving huge success and becoming a best-selling single band, The KLF finished their Brit Awards performance shooting blanks at the audience, dropping a dead sheep at one of the afterparties and deleting their back catalogue. Their earnings funded an award for the worst artist of the year and later were burned, for the K Foundation Burn a Million Quid performance. Since then, Drummond has presented talks around the world, published books, and also staged unexpected actions including making soup for strangers and becoming a shoe shine boy.
