Pandemonium
Description
This is the first of three club nights in the late 80s brutalist Hotel Forum.
The Ballroom opens up with Bartosz Kruczyński and Poly Chain experimenting with beatless acid and minimal synth, leading to Indonesian band Uwalmassa’s unique mixture of electronic, club and traditional gamelan sounds. Emptyset takes the night into a noisier industrial direction with the premiere of the A/V show Blossoms, presenting the sonically extreme results of their machine learning experiments. Combustive noise rap duo Prison Religion follow, then two A/V premieres from outfits exploring hardcore dance music: Shanghai-based Osheyack & visual artist Adam Dupré from New York, and Poland’s WIXAPOL. Rave maverick LSDXOXO closes the room.
The Chandelier Room features Libront presenting his dub side, and Palestinian-based Muqata’a’s avant-garde sound of twisted hiphop beats, while German legend Burnt Friedman joins forces with Portuguese percussionist João Pais Filipe as Friedman & Pais, blurring the line between electronic rhythms and acoustic percussion. South Africa’s Citizen Boy is one of the youngest stars of gqom, bringing the latest developments of the genre. Low Jack brings the sound of mutated dancehall, while DJ Rosa Pistola comes with reggaeton heavy hitters.
The Kitchen opens with a live show from Polish duo Mentos Gulgendo combining voice and organ, setting the stage for an abstract live act from John Object and adventurous DJs CCL and Upsammy. JD Twitch of Optimo will present a new Against Fascism Trax set, which he describes as “an experiment in whether music can convey an intent non-verbally.”
Mentos Gulgendo is supported by the SHAPE Platform.
