MABE FRATTI & LA CATÓLICA
FREE
Description
Over the past few years, Mabe Fratti has emerged as a formidable and versatile talent. In acclaimed solo recordings like 2022’s Se Ve Desde Aquí, the Guatemalan-born, Mexico City-based cellist has pursued a deeply personal style of songwriting that draws from folk, ambient, free improv and avant-garde traditions. This year, two more projects have come to light – Amor Muere, a free-ranging quartet of Mexico City experimentalists, and Titanic, her duo with Venezuelan pianist/guitarist I. La Católica (Hector Tosta) – in addition to further collaborations, some at Unsound with Polish musicians, or with Peter Zummo and Gudrun Gut. In conversation with Pitchfork’s Philip Sherburne, Fratti and Tosta will discuss a range of topics related to their creative practice, such as collaboration, improvisation and the dissolution of boundaries between genres.
