The Dwarfs of East Agouza is a improvising band formed in Cairo, Egypt combining repetitive North African drums, free jazz guitar inspired by West African traditions and motorik acoustic bass a’la krautrock in a colourful and lively blend of hot psychedelia. It’s a new project from Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls, Alvarius B.), Maurice Louca (“Salute the Parrot”) and Sam Shalabi (Land of Kush, Shalabi Effect), who started playing together in Cairo’s Agouza district in 2012 to explore hypnotic local traditions, as heard on their excellent debut album “Bes”.
