Written in 1959, Dennis Johnson’s “November” was until recently relatively unknown. Five hours long, the glacially paced, meditative work prefigured minimalism and directly inspired La Monte Young’s “The Well-Tuned Piano”. The score itself consists of several pages of short ideas to be improvised upon. Pianist R. Andrew Lee, one of the world’s foremost interpreters of minimal music, released a recording of “November” in 2013. Audience members can stay for the duration, or enter and exit throughout.
