Discussions, Performances and Contemporary Dance Workshop Added to Unsound 2020: Intermission Program. Festival Starts This Thursday 1st October - 100% online!
Unsound 2020: Intermission starts this Thursday until Sunday 11th October, involving a rupture in terms of the usual, with the festival taking place entirely online. Following a mammoth announcement last week, the program is now rounded out with additional discussions, performances and a dance workshop. Full information is available via our festival schedule. All times are set to CEST, but you can see when an event will start in your location by placing your cursor over the start time.
Before describing these additions, a reminder that Unsound is also publishing a book and album this year, exploring the festival theme of Intermission directly and indirectly. Writers, musicians and themes in this book connect with the Unsound online program. Released in November, the book and album are already available for pre-purchase here.
As for the online festival, discussions will touch upon the subjects of the future of music media and festivals, ecology, cancel culture, self-care and mental health during the pandemic, noncompliance in Belarus, and how online / offline realities intersect. Apart from this there are artist talks with Kode9 and Lawrence Lek, Chris Watson and Kristen Gallerneaux and DeForrest Brown, Jr. and James Hoff. Note also that artists at Unsound will often be available to chat via Unsound Discord , which will already serve as a general hub for conversation at the festival - you can already join with this invite.
Unsound this year has several program elements that involve co-curators from around the world. Additional elements include one from our long term collaborator Nyege Nyege, with whom we will present the Kalalu Traditional Troupe, footage of HHY & The Kampala Unit playing at Unsound 2019 in Hotel Forum, and the previously announced show where percussionists Miłosz Pękala & Hubert Zemler will play the music of Jlin (who performed at Nyege Nyege in 2018).
MAZEUM Festival from Japan will present a special transmission exploring the creative possibilities of online performance, where the viewer will be navigated through an unpredictable chain of consecutive performances in a condensed show. Performers include: Fuyuki Yamakawa, Killer-Bong, KOM_I, Mahi To The People and Utena Kobayashi.
Apart from that, we have one more workshop via Zoom, with a queer dance and movement workshop led by choreographer Rafał Pierzyński featuring a DJ set by Facheroia of Warsaw’s Kem collective. This workshop sits alongside two other Zoom dance workshops, including Jersey Club 101 with UNIIQU3 and a Gqom Dance Workshop, with Rudeboyz, Griffit Vigo and Esi.J.
Remember that you need to register for dance and meditation workshops, as well as the upcoming Machine Listening sessions, and the tour of Kazimierz. You can find all registration links via the festival schedule.
The entire online program is free of charge - you can support our activities by purchasing the aforementioned book and album, or via Patreon or by directly supporting us here.
